Skewers do not actually attack two pieces at a time, but they are a situation in which one of the two pieces is going to be taken. A skewer is applied with either a queen, rook, or bishop. Here are some examples of skewers. Keep in mind that it is possible to get out of a skewer in the same ways you get out of forks. Moving a skewered piece to put your opponent in check with it, or trading one of the skewered pieces off, will often save you.

Black skewers white's king, winning the queen.

White skewers black's two rooks with the bishop, winning a rook for a bishop.
