The King is the leader of your army, and as you know you must keep him out of harm's way. Just keep in mind that in a close endgame, the king can be a very valuable asset to your pawn marching activities. If you get comfortable with knowing when the game is going to turn into a pawn race, it may be a good idea to bring the king into the picture before your opponent does. Often a pawn race in the endgame is won or lost by one move, because one player knew when to bring his king into the battle. |
